About us

We're Sofia & Gokul, and we've been making things together since 2019.

A couple, two cameras, one apartment with bad plumbing. We share our travels, our dinners, and what we're figuring out, mostly in public.

Sofia grew up between Madrid and a small coastal town in Galicia where her grandmother still makes the best empanada in the country. She studied graphic design, quit an agency job in 2021, and now runs the visual side of everything we make.

She's the one who says no to bad light and yes to second breakfast. She shoots on a beat-up Contax G2 she found at a flea market in Porto, and she'll talk your ear off about kerning given half a chance.

Off-camera you'll find her reading Didion, making pasta from scratch, or moving the sofa three inches to the left. Again.

Gokul

Writer · filmmaker · breaker of kitchen timers

Gokul was born in Chennai, raised in London, and landed in Barcelona on a six-month sabbatical that turned into a life. He spent a decade writing code for banks before deciding the world had enough fintech dashboards.

He writes most of the long-form here, shoots the video, and runs the technical side of the site. He's the one asking 'but what's the frame rate?' and the one forgetting to eat lunch when something interesting shows up in a spreadsheet.

He runs slowly, cooks ambitiously, and believes strongly that the second draft is always better than the first.

Our story so far

  1. 2019

    A bad coffee in Barcelona

    We met at a cafe near Plaça Reial. Sofia ordered the espresso, Gokul ordered the one that came with oat milk by accident. We talked for four hours.

  2. 2020

    First trip, locked down

    We flew to Lisbon for five days and stayed for eleven weeks. The border closed, the apartment was tiny, and we figured out we liked each other in small rooms.

  3. 2022

    Started @fiaandgoki

    We posted the first carousel on a rainy Tuesday; a list of the things we cooked that week. It got 42 likes. We kept going.

  4. 2023

    Moved in, officially

    A top-floor flat in Barcelona with terrible plumbing and perfect afternoon light. It still leaks. We still love it.

  5. 2024

    100k on TikTok

    A one-minute clip of Sofia's pancakes hit a million views overnight. We got scared, then excited, then back to normal. The next post was about laundry.

  6. 2026

    Launched fiaandgoki.com

    Our own corner of the internet. No algorithm, no sponsors, no one between us and you. You're reading it now.

What we stand for

Three words we keep coming back to

Principle 01

Slow.

We'd rather post once a week with something to say than five times a day with nothing. Taking our time is the whole point.

Principle 02

Honest.

No hidden sponsors, no staged mornings, no pretending the flight was free. If a brand paid us, we'll tell you twice.

Principle 03

Together.

Two people, one feed. We make every call together. Which photo ships, which brand we say no to, which Tuesday we take off.
